Last week our Chief Technology Officer, Ian, had the pleasure of representing Teachmate at a DfE hackathon alongside Education Secretary, the Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, and Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary, the Rt Hon Peter Kyle MP.
Together they explored how AI tools can empower teachers by reducing workloads and enhancing personalised learning, which could also significantly benefit students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
A key focus was the Department for Education’s innovative initiative to establish an AI content store. This resource aims to revolutionise the development of high-quality AI tools in education. At TeachMate, we’ve already experienced significant growth, creating highly skilled jobs in the sector, thanks to the potential unlocked by this content store.
The hackathon showcased some truly innovative solutions developed in a remarkably short time. It’s inspiring to see such creativity and dedication aimed at improving educational outcomes.
Ian said “We’re excited to build on the excellent resources provided by the Education Content Store. For Teachmate’s 300,000 teachers, this means highly accurate, personalised materials that perfectly match the curriculum—saving them valuable time each day.
AI presents a game changing opportunity to reduce teacher workload and transform student outcomes, and this initiative from the DfE is a major step forward in making that a reality.”
We’re excited to continue our collaboration with educators, policymakers, and technologists to harness AI’s potential responsibly. Our goal is to support teachers and improve outcomes for all students, ensuring that technological advancements translate into tangible benefits in the classroom.
