Faye recently joined the Teachmate team as our Welsh Community Advocate.

Tell me a little about your career history and what you are doing alongside TeachMateAI…

I’m a secondary school teacher and a DCF Coordinator. The DCF framework is all about digital skills and giving students an array of opportunities to help them to succeed in the world of work.

When I finished my undergraduate studies in French Studies and Law, I went on to do a Secondary PGCE. Afterwards, I went into a secondary school teaching French and English. During my time in school, I’ve been a Teacher Governor, Head of Enrichment and now a DCF Coordinator. Before I was a teacher I worked for Lloyds Bank so a very different career path!

Tell me about your role at TeachMateAI?

I am our Welsh Community Advocate. Essentially, my role is to align the platform with the changes to the Welsh curriculum. My priority is to build and strengthen the tools for Wales so we can enhance the platform and save Welsh teachers time. Curriculum for Wales 2022 is very different to the English curriculum so it’s great to work on new tools to help teachers across Wales.

What’s your favourite thing about working at TeachMateAI?

I just love the fact that teachers can save so much time. There’s not enough emphasis on wellbeing as a teacher; when you log into TeachMate, that’s what it’s all about! There’s already so much on there to help and we’re constantly building more tools to help with teachers’ work/life balance.

Which is your favourite tool/tools?

I love the Jingle Generator because of the instant fun it generates for pupils. I also enjoy using our Quiz Generator to create relevant quizzes which provide instant feedback for me to follow up. It’s ideal for tracking, monitoring and measuring progress. I link it to online quiz platforms and to our school’s online Classroom. The children don’t know it’s a test because it’s quick and enjoyable to do!

What are your favourite things to do when you’re not at work?

I have three young children and live in the Welsh countryside, so I am always busy with their schedules or outdoors somewhere close to a farm. I love a good yoga retreat with friends and my guilty pleasure in life is Eurovision! Anything to do with languages and Europe is always a winner for me.
